About

Trade professionals often work in challenging environments where existing time-tracking tools are slow, overly complex, and unreliable. Forgotten clock-ins, poor connectivity, and manual payroll corrections create unnecessary administrative work and reduce profitability.

Problem Statement

Trade professionals often work in challenging environments where existing time-tracking tools are slow, overly complex, and unreliable. Forgotten clock-ins, poor connectivity, and manual payroll corrections create unnecessary administrative work and reduce profitability.  How do you design for workers with dirty hands, poor connectivity, and time-sensitive payroll?

Opportunity

Deliver a fast, intuitive experience that allows employees to clock in within five seconds while automating job detection, reducing payroll errors, and improving labor visibility.

Personas

To better understand the needs of TradeTrack's primary users, I developed personas based on the product discovery, business goals, research assumptions, and target user groups identified during the discovery phase. These personas represent two of the platform's core audiences: field technicians who need a fast, reliable way to track time in challenging job-site environments, and project managers who depend on accurate labor data to oversee crews, payroll, and project performance. The personas served as a reference throughout the design process, helping prioritize features, validate design decisions, and ensure the experience remained focused on real user goals, pain points, and day-to-day workflows.

User Journey Map

To better understand the end-to-end experience of TradeTrack's primary users, I created a journey map that visualizes the steps, thoughts, emotions, pain points, and opportunities encountered throughout a typical workday. Beginning with arriving at the job site and ending with payroll approval, the journey map identifies where users experience friction and highlights opportunities to improve efficiency through thoughtful product design. This exercise helped prioritize features such as one-tap clock-in, GPS-assisted job detection, offline functionality, smart reminders, and streamlined approval workflows, ensuring every design decision aligned with both user needs and business goals while creating a faster, more reliable experience for field crews and office teams alike.

AI-Assisted Design Process

high-fidelity wireframes using Stitch. This phase transformed the approved layouts into polished, production-ready interface concepts by applying visual hierarchy, typography, spacing, accessibility standards, and interactive UI components. The high-fidelity designs closely represent the final product experience, allowing stakeholders to evaluate usability, branding, and functionality while providing a clear blueprint for development and future usability testing.

To bring the product vision to life, an interactive prototype was created in Lovable, transforming the high-fidelity designs into a realistic, clickable experience. The prototype simulates key user workflows, screen transitions, and interactions, allowing stakeholders to experience the application before development begins. This stage was instrumental in validating navigation, identifying usability opportunities, gathering feedback, and refining the overall user experience. By testing the product in a near-real environment, I was able to reduce development risk, align on design decisions, and ensure the final solution delivered an intuitive, efficient, and user-centered experience.

Accessibility

Accessibility was a core design principle throughout the development of TradeTrack, ensuring that trade professionals of all abilities can efficiently track time, manage schedules, and complete tasks in demanding work environments. This audit evaluates the application against WCAG 2.1 AA standards, identifying strengths, potential barriers, and opportunities for improvement to create a more inclusive, intuitive, and reliable experience for every user—whether they're on a busy job site, working in bright sunlight, wearing gloves, or relying on assistive technologies.

Solution

TradeTrack was designed to simplify time tracking for trade professionals by creating a fast, reliable, and mobile-first experience. The solution enables users to clock in with a single tap, quickly switch between jobs, record breaks and overtime, and submit accurate digital timesheets from anywhere, even in areas with limited connectivity. Built-in error prevention reduces missed punches and incomplete entries before they reach payroll, minimizing costly corrections and administrative effort.

For supervisors and office staff, TradeTrack provides real-time visibility into labor hours, project progress, and workforce activity through centralized dashboards and automated reporting. By eliminating manual processes and improving data accuracy, the platform helps reduce payroll errors, accelerate invoicing, improve project profitability, and allow field teams to spend less time tracking hours and more time completing the work that matters.
